White Dam was historically explored for shallow oxide gold.
Broken Hill Gold (ASX:BH6) now wants to know what everyone left underneath.
A review of historical data has identified multiple near-mine gold-copper targets across the White Dam Project, many carrying shallow mineralisation but little to no deeper drilling to test the underlying sulphide potential.
Icebreaker changed the thinking
The catalyst is the recent Icebreaker discovery, previously known as White Dam North.
That shallow high-grade gold-copper sulphide discovery has shifted attention from oxide extensions towards the possibility of a much broader sulphide-hosted system across White Dam.
Several new targets share structural and geophysical characteristics with Icebreaker, Vertigo and Hannaford.
Historical hits include:
- Mary Mine: 16m @ 0.9g/t Au and 2.2% Cu from 13m
- Green and Gold: 36m @ 1.0g/t Au and 0.3% Cu from 56m, including 4m @ 3.8g/t Au
- Wilkins: 9m @ 0.9g/t Au and 0.5% Cu, including 1m @ 4.0g/t Au
None have been properly tested at depth.

30,000 metres to find out
Broken Hill Gold is now planning over 30,000m of drilling over the next 18 months, backed by electrical & magnetic geophysics and geochemistry.
Near-mine drilling permits have already been submitted, while heritage work is opening up the regional targets.
Managing Director Matthew Boyes said Icebreaker had changed the company’s view of White Dam’s broader copper-gold potential.
What’s next
IP and magnetic surveys are set to begin across the highest-priority targets before deeper drilling follows.
Meanwhile, resource drilling continues at Icebreaker, Vertigo and Hannaford ahead of an updated oxide MRE targeted for Q4 2026, followed by pit optimisation and mine planning.
White Dam already proved it could produce gold, now Broken Hill Gold is testing whether the system underneath could be considerably bigger.
