Imagion Biosystems (ASX:IBX) has resumed nanoparticle manufacturing capability for its MagSense platform through a new Master Service Agreement with nanoComposix.
The move follows FDA clearance of the company’s IND for MagSense in HER2 breast cancer and is designed to support clinical development, future partnering and potential commercialisation.
Manufacturing comes back online
Under the agreement, Imagion will provide its proprietary nanoparticle synthesis equipment, software and procedures to nanoComposix, which will manufacture pharmaceutical-grade material under Imagion’s direction.
That gives the company a way to build supply without taking on the fixed cost of its own manufacturing facility.
It also keeps the process aligned with FDA product-quality requirements.
Why this matters now
MagSense relies on targeted magnetic nanoparticles as the core component of its imaging agents.
Those particles need to be consistent, reproducible and suitable for clinical use.
By rebuilding the process now, Imagion can define product specifications and shelf life earlier rather than waiting until later-stage development.
That matters for both regulation and partnering.
A platform is more valuable when a potential partner knows it can actually be manufactured.
HER2 remains the lead program
nanoComposix has already supported production of the MagSense HER2 imaging agent used in the completed Phase 1 study and material planned for the upcoming Phase 1b/2 study.
The immediate focus will be on establishing a robust manufacturing protocol and supplying any additional HER2 investigational product required.
The same core nanoparticle platform could also support future prostate and ovarian cancer programs.
That gives the manufacturing work value beyond one indication.
What comes next
Imagion still needs to advance the planned Phase 1b/2 study and generate stronger clinical evidence around MagSense.
But the company has now restored one of the less visible pieces needed to support that pathway.
The science got MagSense into the clinic, manufacturing is what helps get it further.
