Imagion Biosystems (ASX:IBX) has cleared another key hurdle on the road to Phase 2.
The company has received central Institutional Review Board ethics approval for its Phase 1b/2 MagSense HER2 imaging trial in HER2-positive breast cancer, clearing a major requirement before patient recruitment can begin.
The protocol, informed consent documents and study materials have all been approved.
From approvals to activation
The latest milestone builds on Imagion’s earlier FDA Investigational New Drug clearance.
With both regulatory and ethics approvals now in place, the focus shifts to activating clinical sites.
That means finalising contracts, training investigators and preparing patient recruitment.
Once the first site is active, enrolment can begin.
One approval process, multiple sites
Imagion is using a central IRB process rather than requiring every participating site to run a separate full ethics review where permitted.
That should reduce duplication and help speed up site activation across the trial network.
For a small biotech, that matters.
The faster sites come online, the faster Imagion can start generating the Phase 2 safety and efficacy data investors actually care about.
MagSense moves closer to proof
MagSense is designed as a targeted MRI imaging agent using magnetic nanoparticles to help identify cancer with molecular specificity, without radioactive tracers or ionising radiation.
The lead program has already completed Phase 1 in HER2-positive breast cancer and is now moving into the next clinical stage.
Imagion is also developing the platform for potential use in prostate and ovarian cancer.
What comes next
The near-term catalysts are straightforward.
Activate the first site, recruit the first patient, then start building the Phase 2 dataset.
Imagion has done the approval work, now the clinical execution begins.
