ADX Energy (ASX:ADX) has brought in an industry partner for the next leg of its Austrian shallow gas campaign.
Empyrean Energy has signed a binding heads of agreement to earn a 10% economic interest in the GOLD Cluster Area by funding 20% of the drilling and testing costs for GOLD-1.
For ADX, that is more than just a funding arrangement.
It is outside capital backing the next well in a gas program that has already delivered at HOCH-1.
GOLD-1 gets a backer
Empyrean will pay a non-refundable €50,000 option fee for exclusivity through to 16 October 2026 while the parties finalise funding and Energy Investment Agreement documentation.
If completed, Empyrean will contribute €555,400 toward GOLD-1 drilling and testing, equivalent to 20% of the well cost cap, in return for a 10% economic interest in the GOLD Cluster Area.
ADX is targeting a Q4 2026 spud.
That makes GOLD-1 the next clear drilling catalyst.

HOCH-1 has set the tone
The timing matters.
GOLD-1 follows the HOCH-1 gas discovery, which is currently undergoing production testing.
The Austrian shallow gas program also benefits from something explorers do not always have, proximity to existing infrastructure.
If the wells work, the route to commercialisation could be more direct than a remote greenfields gas play.
Industry validation matters
The economics of the earn-in are relatively simple.
Empyrean pays 20% of GOLD-1 costs to earn 10% of the cluster.
In return, ADX reduces its funding burden while keeping the majority of the upside.
That is useful, but the stronger signal is strategic.
An external industry participant has looked at the opportunity and is willing to put money behind the next well.
What comes next
The near-term milestones are straightforward.
Finalise the Energy Investment Agreement, close the partnership, spud GOLD-1 in Q4.
HOCH-1 proved the concept, GOLD-1 now gets the chance to prove it can scale.
