Vanadium Resources (ASX:VR8) has secured a Right of First Refusal over its preferred brownfield site at the Highveld Industrial Park in South Africa, giving its planned V-Iron Plant a real location to build around.
The agreement runs until 31 July 2027 and also gives VR8 an option to secure up to 12 months of exclusivity while it works through financing and front-end engineering.
That matters because the V-Iron story can now move from concept to site-specific design.
Brownfield beats blank canvas
The Highveld site already comes with the sort of infrastructure a greenfield development would have to build from scratch.
Heavy-industrial zoning. Electricity, water and gas access. Rail and road links. A local workforce with decades of metallurgical experience.
For VR8, that could mean a cleaner development pathway, lower execution risk and potentially less time spent solving infrastructure problems before construction can even begin.
Management says the brownfield setting offers clear cost, schedule and permitting advantages over starting fresh.
Scoping study now gets real
VR8’s accelerated V-Iron Plant Scoping Study is still targeted for completion by 30 September 2026.
The study is assessing the co-production of vanadium-bearing slag and pig iron from Steelpoortdrift ore.
With a preferred site now identified, plant layout, utility integration, logistics and permitting can all be assessed against an actual location rather than a theoretical one.
Funding is the next piece
VR8 is also continuing discussions with strategic funding groups, including U.S. Government-aligned development finance institutions, European Union Critical Raw Materials partners and other investors.
The company is targeting a mix of debt, offtake and strategic financing while trying to minimise equity dilution.
That funding strategy becomes a lot more tangible once the plant has a site and the Scoping Study has numbers attached to it.

What’s next
The immediate catalyst is the V-Iron Scoping Study due by the end of September.
If the numbers stack up, VR8 plans to move into a Definitive Feasibility Study, FEED and ultimately a final investment decision.
The resource was already there, now the plant has somewhere to go.
